The Drag Racing stable has many different types of vehicles.
From Top Fuel Dragsters through to Street Cars and Bike the sport has evolved many different types of racing and Perth Motorplex has played host to most of them from Jet Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars through to Top Doorslammers and 350kmh Motorcycles.
But one vehicle type has never appeared at the Perth Motorplex in the 10 years since it’s opening – the Wheelstander!
Well that little anomally is being addressed with the Aussie Bandit featuring at this weekends Night of Fire.
The Aussie Bandit, driven by Nigel Benson, has thrilled fans up and down the East Coast with it’s 1,700hp supercharged methanol burning powerplant propelling the VZ ute down the quarter mile at over 160 kays…ON TWO WHEELS!
It is no mean feat to get a car to do this…the engine goes in the back – a V drive (as used in Drag Boat racing) is utilised and a hole is cut in the floor to aid in seeing where Benson is going!
The Aussie Bandit along with a supercharged Burnout demonstration, plus over 220 Drag Racing teams capped of with a huge fireworks display to celebrate the New Year will make the Night of Fire on Saturday night January 8 an event for all ages…so pack up the kids and head to the Perth Motorplex!
